Day #68- Stop the Insanity

Dear Teacher Who Needs to Stop,

Teachers are hard on themselves. When I say hard, I'm talking borderline- masochistic, Joan of Arc burned at the stake martyr status.

The self-torture teachers inflict upon themselves grieves me to the core, but ironically, it's also what I love most about teachers.

They'll never stop. It's the spirit of a teacher, but maybe seeing the list in writing will help a few teachers scale back just a touch or at least illuminate the need to seek out the best therapist a low-option HSA will provide.

Here's the list.

1) Stop asking for permission. You're an adult.

2) Stop working for free. You're worth more.

3) Stop apologizing. You're not wrong.

4) Stop standing on your feet. Sitting is okay.

5) Stop saying yes to everything. No is a gift.

6) Stop taking work home. You won't do it.

7) Stop caring more than others. It will kill you.

8) Stop wearing heels. Soak those toes.

9) Stop eating salad. A brownie is a gift.

10) Stop punishing yourself. It's not a sport.

11) Stop disinfecting. What will be, will be.

12) Stop feeling defeated. You are victorious.

13) Stop overanalyzing. It won't change a thing.

14) Stop letting them win. You're in charge.

15) Stop cleaning. You're not a custodian.

16) Stop waiting for a change. Mobilize.

18) Stop putting the first, second. It's not fair.

19) Stop telling them again. Once is enough.

20)Stop taking late work. They knew it was due.

21) Stop punishing your bladder. Take a break.

22) Stop thinking you're ineffective. You're not.

23) Stop working on sub plans from a hospital bed. They'll figure it out.

24) Stop listening to others. This is still the best profession in the world.

25) Stop asking yourself why you're so miserable. You already know why.

Time to decide. Scale back or therapist?
