Day #85- The Real You

Updated: Jan 30, 2021

Dear Weekend Teacher,

She's the real you. We know it. You don't have to explain. We get it.

She's the one you would be if you had the freedom to be her each day of the week. She doesn't wear a mask or lanyard, and she doesn't bark at kids to pull up their masks, all the way up... "past the nose, Nick."

She's the Jekyll to the Hyde, if Jekyll was the good one. I forget, but that's not the point.

The point is on the weekend, she's the best version of herself. Tomorrow. you'll transform into her. You've been in that mask so long you may have forgotten what she looks like, so here's a reminder that the de-masked, most genuine, truest form of you is pretty dang cool.

The real you....

- doesn't set an alarm, wakes when she wants

-stays in her pajamas, refuses to wear pants

-pets her black lab, throws him a chew toy

-drinks coffee while it's still hot, fully digests her toast

-notices the sunshine, smells the cold air

-snuggles with a Sherpa blanket, reads a good book

-laughs with her children, listens to good music

-drives to the beach, sighs at a pink sunset

-watches her son play baseball, puts down her phone

-orders take out, stays in to watch Netflix

-makes a pan of brownies, dances in the kitchen

-goes for a walk, talks with a friend

-listens to a sermon, takes a Sunday nap

-lives in the moment, removes her watch

-grills a steak, sees the full moon

-lights a fire in the fireplace, drinks a glass of wine

-whispers goodnight, prays it's not Monday

And even if that prayer isn't answered, don't let that mask convince you that you're Hyde. You're not. You're cool, funny, and smart.

If you don't believe it, just ask your dog or reread this blog.

Would we lie to you?

-CDB
